Hamid Alinejad Rokny

Dr Rokny (PhD, UNSW Sydney, 2018) is the Director of UNSW BioMedical Machine Learning Laboratory (BML), where he leads a team of 25 researchers developing trustworthy artificial intelligence for biology and medicine, spanning medical artificial intelligence, large language models, and bio-machine learning. He has led 60+ research and translation projects and published 100+ papers in leading journals and conferences, including Nature Communications, Nature Neuroscience, The Lancet, Cell Reports, PLOS Computational Biology, Blood, and A* venues such as NeurIPS, ICLR, AAAI, and ACL. His work has attracted 5,250+ citations (h-index 40) and is supported by major competitive funding, including ARC DECRA, the UNSW Scientia Fellowship, NHMRC IDEAS, CSIRO NGGP, AEA Ignite, and multiple industry-funded research programs. He is committed to training the next generation of biomedical artificial intelligence researchers, with trainees receiving competitive awards and fellowships (e.g., Google, Tour de Cure, MSA), and contributes to community capability and research direction through seminar programs and service roles including NSF–CSIRO panels and HUGO activities.
